Sultan ul Faqr | Grandeur & Magnificence | Sultan Bahoo

Sultan ul Faqr

“The Sultan of Faqr”. Sultan Bahoo has mentioned seven Sultan-ul-Faqr souls in his mystic treatise Risala Roohi Sharif. Six of which are: Fatimah daughter of Prophet Mohammad, Hassan of Basra, Ghaus-ul-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, his son Shaikh Abdul Razzaq, Sultan Bahoo himself and Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali. Sultan-of-Faqr also refers to the Universal Divine Man (the Insan-e-Kamil) of an era who is the heir of the Divine Trust of Faqr and is appointed on the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion as the perfect spiritual guide to guide the seekers on the path of Faqr. He is Sultan-ul-Faqr because he has complete authority over Faqr.

Sultan Bahoo says:

Origin of Sultan-ul-Faqr

You must know that the origin of Sultan-ul-Faqr souls is the non-creation light of faith while their ultimacy is the non-creation Divine light of the Rehman. (Qurb-e-Deedar)

Grandeur of Sultan-ul-Faqr

Sultan-ul-Faqr is the Divine light which is ever present in the Mohammadan Assembly. Or, he views the highest level of the Mohammadan Assembly and is blessed with its presence.

Faqr is Sultan ul Faqr

Faqr is a form of Divine light which is eternally blessed with the company of the Holy Prophet and its name is Sultan-ul-Faqr. It is the eternal source of beneficence, as the Divine light of Sultan-of-Faqr is brighter than the sun and its scent is more fragrant than the scent of rose and ambergris. Whoever is blessed with the privilege to behold the Sultan-ul-Faqr in dream, becomes independent of all desires. The Holy Prophet takes oath of allegiance from him and guides and educates him inwardly.

Incident narrated in Risala Roohi Sharif (English translation and exegesis with Persian text)

Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi has also mentioned about these seven Sultan-ul-Faqr souls symbolically in his Mathnavi with reference to Hazrat Daqooqi who was a true Lover of Allah and a Saint of great cadre. He states:

  • “Once I (Hazrat Daqooqi) reached a sea shore. It was evening, I saw seven bright candles from far away. The Noor of those candles was covering the horizon. I was surprised that who had lit those candles and why common people could not see them. Certainly those were lit by The One who grants righteousness to whomsoever He wants.”

Then Hazrat Daqooqi saw that all the seven candles merged in each other and became one. This merging of seven candles is unexplainable. It can only be seen, not described. In fact those candles of Noor were the Noor of seven Saints which cannot be seen by common people. Daqooqi ran towards those candles to observe what kind of Signs of Allah were they, but he fainted before reaching them. When he regained consciousness he again ran towards them.

He says regarding sultan ul faqr, “I was astonished that what an Ingenuity of Allah! Then those candles took human form and then each one of them took form of a tree. The leaves of those trees were so thick that their branches could not be seen. Sometimes they became laden with so much fruit that the leaves got hidden in the fruit. Their roots could also be seen which were fresh. When a fruit burst due to the intense passion, lightening of Noor flashed from it.

There was another surprising factor that there were lacs of people around who needed shade but they couldn’t see the shade of those trees. They were getting shade by spreading blankets or things like that. Maybe Allah had sealed their sight. It seemed that those people did not even wish to meet these Saints and didn’t even try to remove the seal of their eyes.” (Mathnavi Maulana Rumi)
